For this research we will focus on answering the question how the social media in the United States contributes to the negative perception of body image in women between the ages of 16 and 23. The body image is the way the body is perceived by oneself, and it has been proven that this image and social media are inevitably connected. Through answering multiple sub-questions, applying research methods such as a trend analysis, netnography and data visualisation it will become clear how much social media actually affects the American woman.
